Maruthamalai Andavar Temple


          The word "Marudhachalapathy" or "Maruthamalai Andavar" means Master of Hills, abounding in Marudha trees. The name has also a legendary origin. A Siddha, overcome by excessive thirst and tiredness, sought shelter under the shade of a Marudha tree and prayed to the mercy of the Lord Muruga for a shower of water, which sprang at once as though by a miracle from beneath the tree! As water gushed out from the roots of the marudha tree, the Siddha leaped in joy, glorifying Muruga as the Lord of "Marudha" and "Jalam" (water) with the passage of time, "Marudhajalapathi" became "Marudhachalapathy".


Pateeswarar Temple Perur


         The Garba graha of this temple was built by Karikala Chola in the early Christian era.It is a Shiva shrine with a Swayambumoorthy. The Sthalapuranam states that when the calf of Kamadhenu was playing in the forest of arasu trees its legs got plunged into a hard object from which blood gushed out. It was then discovered that the object was nothing but a sacred Siva Lingam. Later on a temple came to built over the Moolasthanam which attracted large concoure of people througout the land. The place became a Vaipu Sthalam in Saivalore. Since it was sung by Saint Appar and by Saint Sundarar in their Devaram. Located at 6 Kms from Coimbatore towards Siruvani


Echanari


         The temple is among the oldest one in Coimbatore and dates back to 1500A.D. The moolavar at this temple was actually meant for Perur Patteshwarar temple and since it got struck on its way from Madurai, Eachnari became the blessed place. The deity's height is 6 feet and the width is 3 feet and is one of the biggest in SouthIndia. The last kumbabhishekam was performed in 1990.


Thirumoorthy Temple


         It is situated at the foot of Thirumoorthy Hills adjoining the Thirumoorthy Dam. This is about 20 kms. from Udumalpet on the Highway from Palani to Coimbatore . A perennial stream flows by the side of the Sri Amalingeswarar temple and nearby there is a waterfalls. The Crocodile Farm at Amaravathi Dam is just 25 kms. from here. This place is being developed as a District Excursion Centre. Regular buses are available from Udumalpet It is believed that a few thousand years ago Athari Maharishi along with his wife Anushiya devi lived here. Moved by their prayer, Lord Shiva together with Brammah and Vishnu (Thiru Moorthigal) came in disguise to test their devotion. Overwhelmed by their appearance the couple offered them tribute. The Thiru Moorthigal refused to accept their offerings as such and demanded that the offering should be made by Anushiya devi in nudity. She accepted their demand and with her power of devotion she changed the Thiru Moorthi's into 3 years old babies and fed them. On seeing the power of devoting Anushiya devi, the Thiru Moorthi's blessed the couple and hence the place is known as Thiru Moorthi hills.


Palani


          The temple of Lord Muruga is located on the Palani Hills. The presiding deity is Dandayuthapani. The idol is made of medicinal herbs, it is one of the six abodes of Lord Muruga and one of the major Pilgrim centres is South India next only to Thirupathi. An electrically operated winch takes the pilgrims to the top. It is 105 kms. from Coimbatore


Bannari Amman Temple


         Bannari Amman Temple is a highly revered shrine located at Bannari, in Erode District of Tamil Nadu. The temple is 75 km from Erode and 10 km from Sathyamangalam. The temple enshrines a swayambhu idol of Bannari Amman in Padmasana posture.


Vellingiri Hill Temple


          The Vellingiri Hill temple is situated some 40 kilometers away from Coimbatore city, Tamil Nadu. The temple is purely dedicated to lord Siva and the overall altitude of the hill is 6000 feet. The Vellingiri hill temple is considered to be the most famous worship place and a massive tourists group visits the hill temple to make their prayers. Moreover the hill is familiar for its extravagant natural resources. People can find several different essential rare herbs grown on the hill, which could be used for medication. The Vellingiri hill temple has the deity of lord Shiva, and people visiting the temple can sense the pleasing atmosphere to worship


Dhyanalinga


         Dhyanalinga is a multi religious temple in the Yoga Center, about 30 km from Coimbatore, at the foothills of Velliangiri Mountains. The temple is considered as the largest mercury-based live linga in the world. It is built of single black granite stone with seven copper rings. Its spiritual center is made up of white granite in the form of a seven coiled snake. The white granite Sarvadharma Sthamba pillar of the temple is carved with the symbols of major religions of the world. The sanctum sanctorum is made of traditional materials like bricks, red mud, lime and herbal additives.


Lord Easwarar Karuppusamy temple


          Lord Easwarar - Karuppusamy temple, located at Sowripalayam, Coimbatore District in Tamilnadu, was built by 14 sub-sects of Raja Kula Agamudaiyar, over 100 years ago.
This temple deserves a special mention that in South India only here as far as the information goes, a much beautiful statue of Lord Shiva has been made Prathista.
